What is it? An app for your Apple or Android device that allows access to your knitting patterns electronically. Even more than that it allows you to modify, sketch on, and save your patterns. I was given access to this program and have used it for the last couple of months. I will admit that I have not dug into it as much as I would like to have but I have been quite happy with the features I have used, and I look forward to using this app more and finding all of the hidden gems.
How I used it so far was mainly a way to always have my patterns with me as I always have my phone with me. It is compatible with the patterns I have on Ravelry so that has been great to be able to have full access there. As I have mostly been on my phone, I haven’t done a lot of editing or customizing but that ability is there. I plan on being able to use it more with my actual Ipad and make full use of the features that make it so I can interact with my patterns. I have not tried a non-Ravelry based pattern yet but that is also on my to-do list.
What do I think of it? Relatively simple to use the most basic features. I think as you get into the app more the system is a little less intuitive/user friendly. I do think the website at www.knitcompanion.com has some very useful tutorials that I will be using to get to know this app even better. I think many folks will find the free version of the app works just fine for them. I think if you are more into knitting from charts or mixing patterns, I think this app is well worth paying the $30 ish dollars for the full use.
Key features for me:
- multiple row counters
- Row highlighter
- Stitch line
- Place marker
- Multiple patterns going at once
Now for some fun! I was given a Stand-it-Up (phone/tablet stand) to give away to one of my lucky readers. A couple of notes: I only have one of these. To enter please comment “Knit Standing” on the social post or on my website (wherever you are reading this). I will put all usernames into a random number generator to pick a winner. Entries need to be put in 12/10/2024 through 12/15/24. Void where prohibited. I will be in touch with the winner on the 17th of December. Good luck!

I have been using it for several years. Best way to navigate thru a chart!! I highly recommend looking up Pink tutorials. I think they are better than other tutorials. They will help unlock many of the uses that are not as intuitive. You don’t have to pay for the subscription but if you do, there are nice features waiting to be explored.
